For investors seeking information about local and regional investment opportunities there are several independent investment networks, (also known as Business Angel networks), which may be able to assist. These networks link investors, entrepreneurs and business support organisations with the aim of providing early-stage finance for innovative, growth-orientated companies. Such companies typically do not have a sufficiently long track record to allow them to access substantial bank or other debt financing, and have funding requirements that are too small (less than £2M) to be of interest to traditional venture capital organisations. Two such Oxfordshire based networks are Isis Angels Network and The Oxford Investment Opportunity Network.
Private investors are reminded that under the Financial Services and Markets Act (2000), as amended in 2005, it is now possible for individuals to self certify as "high net worth" or "sophisticated" investors for the purpose of accessing investment opportunity information through such networks, provided that a number of simple criteria are met.
