Begbroke Science Park featured on BBC 4 ‘Metal: How It Works’

Professor Sir Peter Hirsch of the Department of Materials, Oxford University and namesake of the Hirsch Building at Begbroke Science Park, appeared on the BBC4 series- ‘Metal: How It Works’ on the 5th of April. Interviewed in the Institute for Advanced Technology on site Professor Sir Peter Hirsch described the excitement he and his team felt on discovering a new technique for viewing crystals inside metal behave using the transmission electron microscope.

The microscope provided fundamental insights into the way in which metals behaved under stress, vital for use in the aeronautical and engineering industries, and areas in which many of the researchers based at Begbroke Science Park are engaged today.
