The Mobile Robotics Group RobotCar trials

The Mobile Robotic Group (MRG) welcomed teams from the BBC, Sky & ITN to Begbroke Science Park on February 14th as they tested their autonomous, electric vehicle RobotCar, a modified Nissan Leaf, on the site.

The MRG researches many aspects of mobile autonomy with a particular emphasis on the perception and understanding of large workspaces. The team have a field lab based at Begbroke Science Park, where they operate and develop the RobotCar as well as other robots, including a driverless Bowler Wildcat. The tests were carried out around the site with Professor Paul Newman, BP Professor of Engineering Science at Oxford University, and his team heading the trials.

See further details on the project initiative at mrg.robots.org.uk or contact the MRG’s Information Engineering Project Manager Janet Sadler at the Department of Engineering Science.
