Widening Participation Event at Begbroke Science Park

First year students from the Oxford Young Ambassadors programme, a celebrated their year’s achievements at Begbroke Science Park on Saturday 30th July. The OYA programme is a three year, sustained contact, programme working with year 9-11 in local Oxfordshire schools. The programme aims to raise confidence and aspirations of its students and educate them in their educational opportunities after the age of 16.

The large group of lecturers, students, family and friends, gathered in the walled garden to enjoy the weather with a sumptuous BBQ and celebrate the ambassador’s hard work. Each student then performed a short presentation about their year’s efforts and what they have learnt throughout the year.

Begbroke was able to offer a unique opportunity for student ‘to get to see another aspect of the University which isn’t based in the city centre’ and use the ‘wonderful facilities, both inside and outside.’ Robyn Pierce Widening Participation Co-ordinator. The afternoon was a huge success and fabulous way to celebrate the students interesting year.
