We are thrilled to announce that Karanjit Das, our AgileLab Manager, and Energenics, one of our longstanding tenants, have both been nominated for the 2024 Cherwell Business Awards, taking place on Friday, 13 September.
Karanjit has been nominated for the Young Business Person of the Year Award. Despite only joining Begbroke in July, he has already made a significant impact by onboarding a new tenant in the AgileLab and building connections across the University and the wider ecosystem. Karanjit shared his thoughts on the nomination:
“Being recognised for your work on a bigger platform feels exhilarating and encouraging. To be a finalist for the Young Business Person of the Year Award is both a privilege and an honour. I wish all the best to other finalists as well.”
Energenics has been nominated for the Engineering Excellence Award. Since its inception as an Oxford University spin-out in 1999, Energenics has been based at Begbroke Science Park. Using nanotechnology, they create innovative cerium oxide products for reducing emissions and protecting wood. Mike Attfield, CEO of Energenics, shared his thoughts on being nominated:
“We are delighted to be nominated for a Cherwell Business Award. I see it as a welcome external recognition of our efforts in building up a nanotechnology business that has lasted 25 years since it was first spun out of Oxford University. Over time we have diversified our range of market offerings, always building on the foundation of our core technology. Begbroke Science Park has been an ideal long-term location for us as an innovative SME rooted in science and technology. This has benefited the wider Cherwell area by providing stable quality employment for our staff and opportunities for local suppliers. Today over 50% of our revenue is from export sales of UK manufactured products to a broad base of international customers. Domestically our output is used as the active ingredient in leading brand products available in the main UK supermarkets and other retail chains. I believe the award nomination recognises these achievements.”
Established in 2011, the Cherwell Business Awards is acknowledged as the original and most respected business awards for the Cherwell District, serving to showcase and celebrate business excellence.
